The Darkness - Australia, 2004
I spent a year on the road with The Darkness during the ‘Permission To Land’ era. It was a lot of fun; you could say quite ‘Spinal Tap’ in parts! This shot was taken in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney, when they were filming the video for ‘Love Is Only A Feeling’. The video had everything you’d want from an epic rock video.
They had helicopters overhead filming Justin doing a big guitar solo on the mountain top and my job was to get as many great shots as I could and set a few up where possible. It was a really stormy day, so I whacked the power up on my lights to make the sky look moody. The band ended up using this image as their cover artwork and the only Photoshopped element was the band's logo on the plectrum that Justin flicked into the air.
Justin is one of the most entertaining people l have ever photographed.
