This portrait was taken for Mojo magazine. I set up my lights in a corridor at EMI Records in Brook Green—a location that, creatively, was far from ideal. Yet sometimes it amazes me how, considering the circumstances, the final image turns out. You would imagine it was shot in a studio and not an office thoroughfare! John has one of those faces that you just want to look at for a long
time, and this portrait captures the depth and character that make him such a compelling subject.
I love his white eyebrow hair that pokes out.
