Dark \u0026amp;amp; moody with his amazing facial expression in the perfect atmosphere. A beautiful moment of haunted melancholy, which fits the time period like a glove. The stripy shirt also gives it a child like quality like a bad dream. I’ve just found it in another one of those mystery Agfa Record Rapid boxes from long, long ago along with a note of extreme thanks from Fiction Records on Charlotte Street in London (The Cure’s record label).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eI believe I had sent them a selection from the shoot, but cannot remember the exact reason. I remember one detail in that the magazine and Cure Management had a misunderstanding as to what the shoot\/interview would be exactly for. This triggered a memory that we were all disappointed by the SPIN selection and once Fiction saw and loved this one, we commiserated on what could have been. If I remember correctly Fiction were promised the cover and it was then ‘pulled’ a quite common practice back in those days. Assign and promise 3-4 different bands\/musician\/managements the cover story to draw them in and peak interest. Then once those various shoots\/interviews happen the editor decides the one they want from there, leaving much disappointment for the rest. Fast forward 28 YEARS, and hopefully more people will now see and love this one of Robert from prime time.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMore backstory: This was my one and only day in the photo studio photographing him. Robert turned up COMPLETELY on his own which has always been huge brownie points in my book. Total pro. This is simply some filtered light shining and reflecting off of mirror foil material onto the cover. Then some simple lighting on Robert.
